American Red Cross volunteers have seen a lot, but every now and then, they come across something new.

Today was one of those instances. Volunteers responded to a tractor trailer truck fire in Wilmington early this morning. There, two trucks were engulfed in flames – leaving three drivers without a home or any of their belongings.

Volunteers provided the truckers – who escaped in only their pajamas – with emergency temporary shelter at a hotel, and funds for food, clothing and seasonal garments.

While it wasn’t a typical call for our Red Cross disaster volunteers, there were still basic human needs that needed to be met – and volunteers were more than happy deliver.

In addition to Wilmington, volunteers have responded to five fires in the past 24-hours. Thank you all for your hard work and sincere dedication.
