Red Cross volunteer heads to Florida to help those affected by Tropical Storm Debby

Paula Farrales with Bree Sison of Channel 4

Meet Paula Farrales.

A long-time disaster relief volunteer with the American Red Cross of Eastern Massachusetts, Paula will be en route to Gainesville today to help with the relief efforts following the massive floods in Florida from Tropical Storm Debby.

Paula will be volunteering her time to help with community partnerships and work with other nonprofit organizations in the area. A number of Red Cross shelters were open this week across the impacted areas of Florida. Trained disaster workers are responding and relief supplies such as toiletry and clean-up items, snacks, trash bags and gloves have been shipped.

  • More than 240 trained disaster workers and 28 response vehicles are currently supporting relief efforts by providing safe shelter, warm meals and distributing relief supplies like flashlights, work gloves, rakes, shovels and tarps.
  • Since June 24, the Red Cross has served more than 6,800 meals and snacks in Florida.

If you would like to help people affected by disasters like wildfires and floods, you can make a donation today to support American Red Cross Disaster Relief by visiting, calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or texting the word REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation.
