From Rwanda to Cambridge: Brookline woman joins the Red Cross

Meet Kelly Miller, the new Volunteer Services Program Manager for the American Red Cross of Eastern Massachusetts.

A New Jersey native,  Miller attended Boston University for undergraduate and graduate studies.  She spent several years in the Registrar’s Office at Boston University School of Law administratively supporting students and prospective students. Most recently, she returns from Rwanda, East Africa, where she was a Health and Community Development volunteer for the United States Peace Corps.

In Rwanda, Miller worked on a country-wide USAID project designed to support orphans and vulnerable children by building household resiliency to economic shocks.  She helped mobilize, train and support Rwandan volunteers to implement the project and serve as ambassadors for their communities. She also received several small grants to work on community water and sanitation projects at local schools.  While in Rwanda, Miller learned first-hand about the value of building capacity in the local community, the power in utilizing local volunteers and the importance of providing support to them.

She comes to the American Red Cross with a passion for seeing communities flourish and she looks forward to engaging with and supporting the many volunteers who are making this happen.

Please help us welcome Miller to the chapter! She can be reached at 617-274-5336.
