Humanitarian, volunteer joins Red Cross staff

Do you know Lynn Levine?

She is an international development professional with expertise in human rights, humanitarian aid and environmental stewardship. She is currently serving the American Red Cross as Regional Manager for Services to the Armed Forces and International Social Services.

Lynn has worked on issues of child development, women’s rights and rural livelihoods by providing communications advocacy, public affairs and partnership development support to UNICEF field offices in Turkey, Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan and to the South-South Cooperation Unit of the UNDP in New York, among others.

As Program Communications Officer for the International Fund for Animal Welfare, Lynn developed and implemented global program and communications strategies for the Protection of Wildlife Against Commercial Trade unit, campaigning for protections for elephants and tigers at the 14th Conference of the Parties of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species in The Hague and leading the communications strategy that moved eBay to ban elephant ivory from its sites worldwide in 2007.

Lynn is also the author of Frommer’s Turkey and Frommer’s Istanbul, and former author of Frommer’s Budget Italy and Frommer’s Southeast Asia. Her travel and food writings have appeared in The Boston Globe, The New York Times, MSNBC, the UN Chronicle, Zagat and Elle.

Lynn has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Marietta College and a Masters Degree from The Whitehead School of International Diplomacy and International Relations at Seton Hall University. She has lived in New York, London, Paris, Florence, and Istanbul, and has traveled extensively throughout Europe, the Middle East and Southeast Asia. She speaks Italian and French, and has a working knowledge of German, Turkish and Spanish.

She currently serves in multiple volunteer roles, including Sheltering, Feeding, Government Relations and Casework, with the Cape Cod and Islands Chapter of the American Red Cross of Eastern Massachusetts. Originally from Linden, New Jersey, Lynn is based out of her home in Barnstable, Massachusetts.
