Safe cooking this holiday

Today’s the day everyone’s been waiting for – a good meal, some tasty desserts with a few naps in between.

But someone has to cook that meal – baste the turkey, mash the potatoes, bake the bread – and the American Red Cross wants you to do it safely.

That means:

  • Don’t wear loose clothing that could get caught or easily catch fire.
  • Keep the kids at bay.
  • Clean the kitchen regularly. It can be a tough task on a busy day, but a little work will prevent grease buildup.
  • Make sure you turn off the stove and oven before going to bed.
  • Get a fire extinguisher. Just in case.
  • Put new batteries in that smoke detector. Just in case.
  • Download the American Red Cross First Aid App which puts expert advice for everyday emergencies in someone’s hand.

Happy eating!
