Red Cross Clubs Boost Holiday Spirit for Troops

With the holidays fast approaching, local American Red Cross youth have been providing ways to show their support to troops by sending a little something to signify their appreciation. Students involved in The Red Cross Club at North Reading High School are currently participating in their own Care Package Drive to collect holiday stocking stuffers that will be sent to deployed service members stationed in Afghanistan. They have received enough supplies to fill more than 500 stockings already. Items such as non-perishable snacks, toiletries, batteries and DVDs are among the list of suggested donations that can be left in various donation boxes the group has placed at CVS, Walmart and the post office in their town.

Another Red Cross Club located at the Learning Academy in Peabody has contributed to the Holiday Mail for Heroes program by collecting a total of 3,600 signed holiday cards thus far. The cards will be distributed to troops overseas as well as veterans across the country. In addition, this club successfully helped feed 2,247 families at the Red Cross Food Pantry on November 14th. We cannot thank both organizations enough for their boundless efforts!
