Snowy Weather Ahead

With December fast approaching, it was only a matter of time before the forecast began to anticipate snow. With temperatures dropping and precipitation rising, the probability of snow today is looking strong. Whether the snowfall is moderate or severe, being prepared is essential. Here are a few pieces of advice to consider when combatting the bitter cold and wet conditions this winter season.

  • Stay informed: Utilize access to media outlets like the internet, TV and newspapers in order to have a handle on weather expectations and updates- noone wants to be caught off guard when a storm hits.
  • Create a storm kit: Gather flashlights, batteries, non-perishable food items, gallons of water and alternate ways for providing heat like wood for fires or coal for stoves.
  • Transportation precautions: Make sure that you have a full tank of gas. This will prevent your gas tank from freezing and also ensure that you have reliable (hopefully) means of transportation if need be.
  • Layers, layers and more layers: If you are brave enough to venture into a storm be prepared to battle the elements! Lightweight mittens and hats as well as insulated boots will serve as an excellent addition to your wardrobe.
