Deployed: Jonathan Goldfield

Jonathan Goldfield, a Haverhill man and a Board Member of the Northeast region, is currently working at a shelter at Nassau Community College in New York. He arrived yesterday and has been sending us updates from his deployment.

Goldfield said he and five other volunteers from the east coast met around the same time yesterday. They stayed in a staff shelter at a separate location.

Today, he began working with others at the shelter’s registration desk. There, volunteers are helping clients determine their next needs.

Behind the shelter is a trailer with front load washers and dryers, which can handle 75 pounds each, and 300 pounds per hour. Loads are folded, wrapped, bagged and labeled for clients, staffers and volunteers.

While it’s only his first day, Goldfield has even met fellow volunteer Carlos Ortiz. He’s a retired firefighter who recently became an Eastern Mass volunteer and was deployed to help our relief efforts.
