Catching up with Sandy Recovery Efforts

As each day passes by since Superstorm Sandy, the affected states get one step closer to full recovery. More than 1,400 Red Crossers are still at work supporting survivors mentally and physically by providing food, shelter and words of comfort. So far more than 9 million meals and snacks have been distributed and upwards of 103,000 health services and emotional support contacts have been provided for those battling tough living conditions.

More than 93,000 families and individuals have connected with the Red Cross to determine recovery needs and access to resources necessary. Red Crossers have handed out over 6.7 million relief items, including tools to combat the cold weather as well as clean-up supplies. Out of the 158,000 shelter stays provided in the aftermath of Sandy, the Red Cross has been responsible for 81,000 of those stays.

The Red Cross will continue to work toward recovery. We appreciate all who have volunteered their time and effort to helping those effected by the hurricane.
