Fire response as blizzard hits New England

American Red Cross volunteers were called to assist families burned out by fire, but it was as a blizzard was hitting the region so hard a driving ban was in place.

How to help and be safe?

Volunteers and staff devised a plan to help everyone. Working closely with Wilmington’s emergency responders who were at the 24-unit apartment building, volunteers worked virtually from Cambridge headquarters and the Northeast Chapter building to help out. Emergency shelter (a hotel stay) was arranged and food was organized by the hotel staff on site. Volunteers will follow up with those displaced as soon as it is safe to do so.
