Disaster Update

While hurricane season is underway and posing threats to those of us near the coast, other types of natural disasters are affecting different areas of the country.  In the last few days, floods and wildfires have caused destruction across the United States.  Yesterday alone there were reports of two wildfires and two floods.  In Washington hundreds of acres of land were ravaged by wildfires, and in Oregon thousands of acres were affected.  In both states, the local Red Cross chapter took action deploying Team Members and opening a shelter for evacuees.

In Texas and North Carolina, heavy rainfall caused major flooding, affecting homes and residents.  The local chapter in Texas made resources available in response to the flooding, and two area chapters in North Carolina opened shelters for evacuees.
