Massachusetts Red Cross supporting Illinois’ recovery

rco_blog_img_thornsAfter devastating tornadoes ripped through the heart of the country last week, the call went out for volunteers who could give up Thanksgiving with their families to support the recovery of the hardest-hit areas of Illinois. There are five coming from Massachusetts including, left to right in photo, Charlie Vose, Jack Kavanaugh and Brian Sheehy, stationed at the relief headquarters of the Red Cross in Peoria, IL.

Red Cross volunteers are providing food, shelter and relief supplies to all those whose lives were affected by these storms, and Red Cross emergency vehicles are distributing meals and relief supplies. No word yet on how the Boston accent or the word “wicked” is playing in Peoria.

Charlie Vose, right, at headquarters in Peoria. His assignment is to help “staff” the operation, bringing in volunteers as they’re needed — and helping to get them home once their job is complete.

You can support the efforts of the Massachusetts staff and volunteers deployed to help after these tornadoes destroyed such a large area. People affected by severe weather and other disasters need help now. You can help people affected by disasters big and small by making a gift to American Red Cross Disaster Relief. Your gift enables the Red Cross to prepare for, respond to and help people recover from disasters. You can donate by visiting www.redcross.org, calling 1-800-RED CROSS or texting the word REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation.
